The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a decisive step to consolidate its internal administration following the conclusion of its nationwide elective congresses. The party has directed the immediate swearing-in and inauguration of all newly-elected executive committee members at the Ward, Local Government, and State levels. This move is aimed at ensuring a seamless transition and effective party governance across all tiers of the political structure.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, issued a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, clarifying the party's position. He stated that the directive for immediate inauguration is in strict accordance with the relevant provisions of the APC Constitution. The party expects the duly elected officials to be sworn in on Thursday or shortly thereafter, a timeline designed to prevent any administrative vacuum and maintain organizational momentum.
In a separate development concerning national security, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has issued a strong charge to troops. During his maiden operational visit to the 4 Special Forces Command in Doma, Nasarawa State on Tuesday, Shaibu directed the troops to intensify high-impact operations. The goal is to decisively defeat terrorists and insurgents operating across various parts of the country, reflecting a renewed push for security.
The Army Chief's security assurances extended to Benue State, where he also made a maiden operational visit on Tuesday, this time to formations in Makurdi. Shaibu promised improved security for Benue’s troubled communities, acknowledging the persistent challenges faced by residents. He revealed that additional troops had already been deployed to strengthen ongoing operations, with the aim of positively impacting security outcomes in the state.
On the presidential front, President Bola Tinubu has shown commitment to Nigeria's technological advancement by directing the immediate release of approved funds for the nation's space program. This move underscores an administrative focus on fostering innovation and long-term strategic development.
Analysis: A Multi-Front Push
These simultaneous announcements from the party, the military, and the presidency suggest a coordinated effort to project stability, security, and progress. The APC's internal consolidation could be seen as positioning for future electoral contests, while the Army Chief's direct engagement signals a hands-on approach to persistent security challenges. President Tinubu's funding directive aligns with broader promises of economic and technological revitalization. Together, they paint a picture of an administration working on multiple fronts, though the tangible outcomes for citizens remain the ultimate measure of success.
