In a significant stride towards sustainable development and poverty alleviation, the Benue State government has formalized a binding Memorandum of Agreement with GreenPlinth Africa. The landmark deal, signed at the opening ceremony of the Green Conference 2026 in Lagos, commits to delivering two million clean energy cookstoves to indigent households across the state.

A Binding Commitment for Change

Babatunde Aina, a key figure in the process, emphasized that the MOA is a formal and enforceable document, ensuring the partnership's deliverables reach their intended beneficiaries. This signing at a premier environmental forum integrates critical social projects into Nigeria's broader sustainability agenda.

Beyond Stoves: A Holistic Support Package

Benue State is now the first in Nigeria to benefit from a carbon credits initiative structured at this scale. The program's impact extends far beyond clean cooking technology. Each beneficiary household will receive a comprehensive package including:

  • A monthly stipend of N10,000.
  • 40 kilograms of briquettes for fuel.
  • Free enrollment in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

This multi-pronged approach directly tackles energy poverty, mitigates health risks associated with traditional cooking methods (like indoor air pollution), and provides crucial financial support.

Parallel Reforms in Finance and Regulation

Alongside this energy breakthrough, other sectors are seeing strategic advancements. The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP). This collaboration aims to bolster the insurance industry's role in public procurement, aligning with NAICOM's ongoing reforms focused on policyholder protection and deepening insurance penetration nationwide.

Simultaneously, the housing finance sector is witnessing fresh innovation, signaling a period of coordinated development across energy, social welfare, and financial services in Nigeria.
