The family of former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai is in a serious fight with the anti-corruption agency, ICPC. They say the warrant used to search his Abuja house was fake and part of a 'smear campaign'. Now, a lawyer, Bulama Bukarti, says the family must prove it.
Bukarti said on TV that calling a warrant 'fraudulent' is a serious criminal claim. He said the family must go to court and prove it beyond doubt. He also said if the ICPC has real evidence against El-Rufai, they should charge him to court instead of just searching his house.
The El-Rufai family is not backing down. They say only old phones and laptops were taken, not spy equipment as reported. They have sued the ICPC and others for N1 billion, saying their search violated El-Rufai's rights.
Why does this matter to you? When powerful people and government agencies fight like this, it tests our justice system. We all want to see corruption fought fairly. But we also want to see everyone's rights respected, no matter who they are. This case will show if the system works for all Nigerians.
