Francis Orbih has been re-elected President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) for a third consecutive term, emerging unopposed at the federation's elective congress held on Monday, March 2, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium. Orbih polled all 13 votes cast by accredited delegates, securing unanimous support and underscoring a consolidated mandate to steer badminton development in Nigeria.
Adamu Alhaji Lawan was also elected Vice President as part of the newly constituted executive board, pointing to a period of continuity for the federation's leadership. With no opposition candidates, the congress demonstrated strong backing for the current administration's direction. The focus now shifts to how this leadership will build on previous initiatives to grow the sport at grassroots and competitive levels.
In other sports news, a significant women's golf event is on the horizon. No fewer than 75 women golfers from across Nigeria are expected to compete in the inaugural Oluremi Tinubu golf classic. The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the Canaanland Golf and Country Club in Koko, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State. This announcement marks a new addition to Nigeria's sporting calendar, aiming to promote female participation in golf.
